Why I chose my topic:
This year’s theme had a very wide range of topics I could pick from, so I had a hard time deciding which one I would pick. Japanese-American internment was very interesting to me since it was the first time the government did some thing like this. Japanese-American internment won out because I think it was a bigger, more important event. So, I searched the library and the internet for as much information as possible. The main reason I picked Japanese-American Rights and Responsibilities in World War II for my project this year is because I was curious about why the government thought they could do what they did and why nobody tried to stop them.
How I conducted my research:
The first thing I did was look for useful information on the internet. I found one website that gave me all of the basic information such as when the government relocated and released Japanese-Americans. Then I got into detail and started looking for things such as why they were relocated and how they and the public reacted. Then I went to the Fresno County Library and found five books about people that were interned and about what happened. Next I found pictures that I could use to put on my website and I found quite a few. Then I searched for quotes from people that were relocated. After that I was done with my research.
How I created and developed my website:
First, I decided on how many pages and sections I would have in my website. This took about half an hour and after I was done, I began to type my paragraphs. By the time I was finished typing, I edited my work and had to decrease my word count. Then I added pictures, photographs, documents, videos, and quotes that would go together with my paragraphs on my website. Next, I picked out the best fonts and colors. Then, I made a slideshow of the pictures. Finally, I was done.
How my project relates to the theme:
My project relates to the theme for a few reasons. First of all, the Japanese-Americans had simple, but necessary rights that were taken away by the government. Another way it relates to the theme is that the government had responsibilities that they didn't follow. It was also the first time the government relocated that many people of the same race. If the government kept their responsibilities and did not take away the rights of the Japanese-Americans, the lives of over 110,000 Japanese-Americans would not have changed forever. This is how Japanese-American Rights and Responsibilities in World War II relates to the theme.
